William’s straw

When William came to live with us, he brought a straw toy.

He offered to let Ernest play with it.

Ernest thought the straw toy was neat.

After three months, the straw toy had become so mangled that “straw” was no longer accurate. See photograph, above.

A new straw was acquired and a new toy constructed. It doesn’t have the character of the original, but the owners are working on it.

  1. Reblogged this on Kathy Waller and commented:

William and Ernest have been part of our family for seven years now–or, more accurately, they have been the family for seven years–and to celebrate I’m reblogging a piece originally posted on Whiskertips. It was written when they were little and cute and spent less time sleeping in sunbeams.

  2. When I read the title, I thought William had a bendy straw, like a certain former vice-presidential candidate. Now I know you mean a toy made of straw. I think William would be a good vice president, while we’re on the subject.

  3. No, just a plain old straw with a ribbon run through it. William would make an excellent vice president. He would think before he acted and would speak only when he had something to say. He would take plenty of naps and wouldn’t make a lot of unnecessary state visits. On the downside, he would irritate visiting heads of state by grabbing their hands and gnawing on their fingers. Or maybe not. So far I’m the only person so honored.
